OBX SC Long Course Update

On July 4, we will be having practice as usual. Please make sure you are at the pool no later than 7:45AM. Practice will begin at 7:45AM. Not only is this a time for stretching and dryland exercises, it enables us to get in the water promptly at 8:00AM. It is important to be ready and on time!

There are also a couple of meets coming up! It is a chance to swim in a regulation 50 meter pool. For the Seniors who have qualified, Senior Championships will be July 9-11 at the University of Virginia. Also, Region I Summer Awards will be held July 15-17 at Midtown Aquatic Center in Newport News, VA. Both invitations are posted on the YMCA bulletin board. Make sure you let me know by June 29th if you are planning to attend the Senior Champs and by July 1st if you are planning on competing in the Summer Awards Meet. I would be happy to answer questions or concerns about these meets. Entries are due on these dates, respectively.

It is great to see three new visiting swimmers this week. Some have signed up for 2 weeks and are returning from last summer. It is great to see them, again, and many of our swimmers are happy to see them return as well. They are already planning beach get togethers...

Have a safe and happy 4th of July. See you at practice that morning!

OBX SC Long Course Update June 22, 2005

Practices have been challenging this week. I am proud of all the swimmers who are making an effort to be there. Everyone is putting in some significant work at the pool!

We have had three great visiting swimmers this week. The first visitor is a young woman from NOVA ( a team based in Richmond) who is a 2008 Olympic trial qualifier and also a past Junior National champion in butterfly. Needless to say, she has pushed us. Those who swam in her lane have had a taste of swimming excellence. The second visiting swimmer, is a 15 year old young man from New Jersey who is an excellent butterflyer, backstroker, and freestyler. His best time in 100 yd free being a .50.00. The final visitor is from Annapolis, Md. and despite a cold, has worked well with Henry and Drew. He is looking for a Zone cut in the 400 IM.

Not only have the swimmers from our club benefited from the visitors, I have enjoyed working with them as well. It is a great opportunity to swim together, make new friends, and keep in shape. I am looking forward to the next couple of weeks as we are expecting many visitors from all parts of the country.

Why we swim long course... June, 2005

This is just a sampling of reasons why any swimmer would get up very early to swim mornings in the summer. We have the largest group so far signed up for our club this 2005 long course season. Also, weekly, we have visiting swimmers from all over the country. They bring diversity and fun to our morning practice sessions. Anyone interested in joining either the YMCA Waves summer league team or the OBX SC Long Course summer practice team can let me know at my email address or calling 441-2543 for more information.

Nicole- so I am ready to swim at George Mason University in the fall.

Andrew- so I am ready to swim well when I go the Naval Academy in July and also do my best at the Long Course Senior Championships at UVA in July.

Hilarey- I want to make my first BB time and hopefully swim in the Senior Group in shortcourse season.

Arielle- I want to swim faster and swim in the Senior group, too!!
