Weekly News / by Coach Laura

Welcome to December and Week 12!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. We had many visitors from Virginia and North Carolina while practicing over the holidays. I will even get a chance to see some of them compete over the next couple weeks at the upcoming meets. It is always fun for coaches and our swimmers to meet others who compete in the same sport. We wish them a safe trip home and hope they may return to practice with us on another visit.

I am in the process of entering those of you who signed up for the upcoming meets. Check your folders for your events and amounts due. I hope everyone had a nice weekend. Sundays continue to be fun racing practices for Seniors and all Junior Elite groups. We had a very competitive Australian relay yesterday. I think everyone had a great time with the relay ending in a tie.
Congratulations to Ronnie Roach for volunteering and completing the Starting portion of USA officiating in Newport News this past weekend. Thanks to Ronnie and many other parents who are volunteering to become officials.
Please remember to sign up for the CGBD B/C meet and/or other meets  by this Friday, Nov 25. The coaching staff wants to wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving!

Fundraising Update

Swim-a-thon & Auction

The final figures on the Swim-a-thon and auction have been confirmed.  Our swimmers raised $5,326.00 during the Swim-a-thon and we raised $2,510.00 through our silent auction.  Our team donated $500.00 to the YMCA’s “We Build People Program” and $266.30 will be sent to the USA Swim-A-Thon organization. That gives OBX Swim Club a total of $7,069.70.  Great Job Everyone!!  We are almost 1/2 way to our Club's Fundraising Goal of $17,000 for the 2005-2006 season.

Family Fundraising Commitments

A reminder to all families, the first 1/3 of your Family Fundraising Commitment ($67 for 1 swimmer, $100 multiple swimmers) is now due.  All swimmers who participated in the Swim-a-thon were credited 95% of the funds they raised.  If you did not participate in the Swim-a-thon or you did not raise an amount equal to the first 1/3, please pay the fundraising amount as soon as possible.  The 2nd 1/3 will be due by 1/15/06.  If you are not sure were your Family Fundraising account stands, please look for a statement in your swimmers folder or call Debbie Gibbs, team treasurer, at 473-3156 or 202-5992 or e-mail at dbegibbs@earthlink.net.

Family Fundraising Deadlines:
1st Third    $67 or $100    10/31/05
2nd Third    $67 or $100    1/15/06
3rd Third    $66 or $100    3/31/06

Final Fundraising Opportunity

The final fundraising opportunity will be selling candy bars.   They will be sold for $1 a piece/50 per case and will arrive within the week.  We are looking for businesses or offices that would be willing to sell the $1 candy bars.  If you have a business or office that we can sell the candy at please contact Margaret Hunt at 441-1436 or Debbie Gibbs at 473-3156.

We are also scheduling group selling opportunities at local shopping centers.  We will need volunteers to sign up for one hour blocks on November 25th and 26th to sell candy bars at Tanger Outlet in Nags Head.  A sign-up sheet will be on the team bulletin board.    We are asking for at least one adult and one swimmer for each hour.  We need everyone’s help to make this fundraiser successful so it will be our final fundraiser this season.

If you have already met your family’s fundraising commitment, thank you, and we hope you will consider helping the team by volunteering at one of the group sales.  If you have not met your fundraising commitment, this is your opportunity to do so.  For each case of 50 candy bars sold, you will be credited $22.50 towards your fundraising commitment.  If you would like to get a box of candy bars to sell, please contact Margaret Hunt or Debbie Gibbs.

If you have any questions about your account please contact Debbie Gibbs at dbegibbs@earthlink.net or call 473-3156 or 202-5992.  Again, thank you to everyone for your hard work.  The funds we raise allow OBX Swim Club to continue the quality swim program that we have.
